curriculum vitae
(1557-1558 – after 2158th year after the Creation)
Shem, Heb. shem, ‘name’, ‘glory’. According to Abrahamic tradition, the forefather of the Shemites, which included Elamites, Arameans, Jews, Arabs, Assyrians, Midianites, Sabaean Semites, Chaldeans, Bulgars, Tatars, Mongols, Chinese, Japanese and Koreans.
Born on the antediluvian earth, son of Naamah, daughter of Lamech the Cainite and the patriarch Noah, son of the Lamech the Sethite. His older brother was Japheth, younger (or possibly older) brother Ham. In Christian iconography Shem has a forked beard. The most ancient image is on a 4th-century sarcophagus discovered in Trier. Had a wife and sons born after the Flood: Elam, Asshur, Arphaxad, Lud and Aram.
Before the Flood he professed monotheism according to the rites of Enoch, after the Flood the religion of the Covenant. With the other members of Noah’s family he sailed on the Ark and settled in a land that provided mankind with a new place of habitation. Founder of the order of priests. His mission, according to Noah’s prophecy, was divine worship.
Died in the ‘land of Shem’, which included modern Armenia, Mesopotamia, Syria, Arabia, Southern and Eastern Asia.
